Geologically Significant: New Amethyst Agate Geode Find

Geologically Significant: New Amethyst Agate Geode Find

A 16+ pound amethyst agate geode found on ‘the Carver’ has recently been cut into 3 pieces, and polished. The geode rind is purple amethyst and approximately 1 1/2″ thick in most places. This thick amethyst rind encircles an approximately 5 1/2″ x 2″ crystal-filled hollow center. The amethyst crystals in the geode center are covered with a secondary surface mineral crystallization of a yellow/beige color. Even more interesting, the yellow/beige mineralization layer coating the amethyst is, in places, coated with a gray/black crystallization layer apparently involving a third type of mineral (I am seeking expert assistance to identify the mineralization involved). The gray/black mineralization layer appears to have intruded into the geode through the rind of the geode, into its center. This intrusion is visible on the photos shown.   Amethyst Agate Geode Slice A Amethyst Agate Geode Slice B   This specimen is geologically significant because it was […]

Giant 'Carver' geode resembles Swiss cheese

Giant ‘Carver’ geode resembles Swiss cheese

This geode was found on ‘The Carver’ in 2017.  It was too large to be cut by my 20″ diamond saw, so I turned to my good Alpine friend, Gordie Sandborn, who has a really huge diamond saw.  Gordie cut it with ease.  It is hard to describe because it is so unique.  I hope you enjoy the photos of the cut and polished geode.  Keep checking with the website as an even larger ‘Carver’ geode has been cut for me by Gordie.  It is unbelievable!

New Bracelet

Another new bracelet to add to the collection! This stone is cut from a cross section of a geode found in ‘The Carver’. Petite crystalline center with a ghostly outline surrounding the pure white geode crystals–all surrounded by a virtually transparent glowing golden agate with the outer edge of the geode rind peaking out from under the bezel.  This is an extremely unusual stone. Set in heavy sterling silver band handmade by J.L. Carver, numbered (#20), and marked with John L. Carver service mark.  The stone is from ‘the Carver’ find, completely natural, cut and polished by hand by J.L. Carver.

New Bracelet

This stone is cut from a cross section of a geode found in ‘The Carver’.  It has a petite open crystalline center which leads to the geode’s ‘fill tube’ .  The tube is surrounded by pink pastel agate which is then surrounded by an orange band. The tube plunges through the stone giving a sense of depth and three dimensions.  The orange is surrounded by a nearly clear colorless band of agate.  This stone is set in sterling silver, numbered, and marked with John L. Carver service mark.  The band is heavy silver.  Stone is from ‘the Carver’ find, completely natural, cut and polished by hand by J. L. Carver. This new bracelet is available in the shop.

New Bracelet

New Bracelet

This is the first bracelet made since June 2016. The stone is a cross section of a geode from the “Carver”.  The geode hollow center (void) is backed with a hand ground starburst from the heel slab of the geode laminated to the primary geode slab.  This is the most unique and technically difficult of the first 18 bracelets I have made and offered for sale on this site. This bracelet is for sale in the Shop.
