About

UPDATE: April 2026

During the first few months of the COVID-19 outbreak, I received an unexpected and unsolicited offer to buy my Alpine, Texas home. Health and family issues made the sale of my property compelling. I returned to my Islesboro, Maine, home with hundreds (thousands?) of pounds of rough unsorted rocks from The Carver agate field, as well as my extensive collection of cut and polished specimens and cabs.

I built a new shop/studio (see July 23, 2021 blog re Texas Amethyst Agate New World Headquarters) at Sprague Cove, Islesboro, Maine. I have been actively and continually cutting and polishing my extensive stock of ‘Carver rough’ and have continued to be amazed by what I am seeing! These Carver agates, jaspers and geodes have been extensively shown on this website under ‘NEWS’. I have posted numerous photo Galleries of the amazing stones of The Carver. I continue this lapidary work as my primary effort of my work—supplemental to the cool Islesboro, Maine, gems I find, cut, polish, and set into one of a kind jewelry.

This Maine jewelry now appears in the website’s ‘SHOP’ in a collection called “Islesboro Jewelry”. I have an extensive collection of Maine tourmaline which I play with and set into jewelry from time to time. You can see an example of this Shop.

If and when I complete my exploration of gems and agates of The Carver, I will let you know in a web posting. The Carver specimen collection is in my possession and may be viewed in the Maine shop/studio by special request. The collection is not for sale but could be part of a museum collection. If you are involved with a museum with interest in the collection, please contact me.

Creating unique objects from the natural beauty of Far West Texas

These sterling silver bracelets are individually designed and handmade by J. L. Carver in Alpine, Texas.

Each bracelet contains gems found by J, L. Carver on ‘The Carver’ agate field in far West Texas. Each stone has been cut, shaped and polished by 50 year lapidist J. L. Carver. These stones are ‘designer gemstones’ which means that the stones are free-form, e.g. , their size, thickness and shape are determined by the unique characteristics of the stone from which each gemstone is cut. This makes each stone totally unique in its size, shape and thickness. Please visit the Texas Amethyst Agate website using the link below to learn more about this amazingly diverse agate find!

Sterling silver bracelets are individually made for each stone in order to enhance the beauty of the stone. Stones are never cut to fit a bracelet. The bracelet is designed to emphasize the stone. Each bracelet is one of a kind and has a hand etched production number on the back. In addition, each bracelet has the J. L. Carver service mark. The bracelets are not sized but are of a style allowing you to gently compress the bracelet to fit your wrist.
